at the Island Records Office in Jamaica

DESCRIPTION:   Wayne Burnside, a highly experienced  researcher in Jamaica continues to offer research for DEEDS & WILLS at the "Island Records Office" in Jamaica.  However since requests for research  have tended to be unique for each client we have opted for a 'pricing' structure which will be based on the particular requirements of each request.  The procedure will be to email Mr. Burnside with your request and request a price quote for the work: be sure to include the 'surname' you would like researched, the 'documents' to be included in the search and the 'years' to be checked. DEEDS - INDEX TO 'GRANTORS": This index begins circa 1664 and runs through the 1870's.  The 'grantor' is the person who sold or transferred the property.  The index covers the entire island of Jamaica and is not for a particular Parish.  Much information can be gleaned from the original deed which will often contain 'property names', names of 'family members', etc.  The only way to ascertain the 'contents' of a particular deed is to order a "xerox" copy of same as described above.

 

2) DEEDS - INDEX TO 'GRANTEES": This index begins circa 1664 and runs through the 1870's.  The 'grantee' is the person who bought or received the property.  The index covers the entire island of Jamaica and is not for a particular Parish.  Much information can be gleaned from the original deed which will often contain 'property names & diagrams', names of 'family members', etc.  The only way to ascertain the 'contents' of a particular deed is to order a "xerox" copy of same as described above.

 

3) WILLS - 'R.M.' (or lower court) INDEXES: This index begins circa 1661, runs through the 1890's and covers Wills probated in the lower courts in Jamaica.  The index covers the entire island of Jamaica and is not for a particular Parish.  Much information can be gleaned from the original 'will':  especially the 'names' of relatives of the deceased, and a host of other information.  The only way to ascertain the 'contents' of a particular Will is to order a "xerox" copy of same as described above.

 

4)WILLS -  SUPREME COURT INDEXES: This index begins circa 1661, runs through the 1890's and covers Wills probated in the 'high court' of Jamaica.  Most Jamaican wills were 'R.M.' or 'lower court' wills, however there are significant numbers of Supreme Court Wills.  The index covers the entire island of Jamaica and is not for a particular Parish.  Much information can be gleaned from the original 'will':  especially the 'names' of relatives of the deceased, and a host of other information.  The only way to ascertain the 'contents' of a particular Will is to order a "xerox" copy of same as described above.
